SoundCloud is a leading platform where artists and fans connect through music. However, the mobile experience presented challenges that impacted user engagement and conversions. This case study explores how I reimagined the UI to enhance usability, introduce a new video feature, and drive a 33% increase in subscriptions.

So, what’s the problem?
SoundCloud’s mobile app has key weaknesses:
Navigation was clunky, slowing music discovery.
No engaging content formats beyond audio.
Missed chances to boost subscriptions and revenue.
User & Business Insights
Through competitive analysis and user surveying, I uncovered critical insights:
Majority of users are on Spotify and Apple Music because of the video and podcasts available, exclusive content, and better features.
Users saw little value in SoundCloud’s premium tier, signaling a need for additional content and features.
27% of surveyed users were musicians and don’t have a way to show their fans behind the scenes or promotional content.

Exploration & Wireframes
To validate ideas and ensure a smooth user experience, I created low-fidelity wireframes and sketches. These helped visualize navigation improvements and the new video feature before refining them into high-fidelity designs.
